A Meat Processing Qualification will provide the skills and knowledge needed to work as a qualified butcher within a number of meat retailing outlets including retail butcher shops, supermarkets and gourmet butcher shops.

Duties performed by a Meat Processing apprentice may include:

• Cutting, trimming and shaping the standard cuts of meat to various sizes
• Processing the remaining carcass into primary and secondary cuts
• Packing and storing products for sale
• Using machinery such as mincers, grinders, mixers and bandsaws to prepare meat
• Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene
• Handling cash transactions
