Animal Management Officers assist in assuring the wellbeing of animals in a variety of areas.

Animal Management Officers may be responsible for the following tasks:

• Recording the health status and behaviour of animals currently in care

• Providing food, water and care for animals

• Looking after zoo exhibits, holding or breeding areas and equipment

• Assisting in return-to-the-wild programs

• Inspecting animals for various health problems

• Cleaning and disinfecting cages and facilities

• Helping with injections, surgery, dressings and care of animals after surgery

• Putting animals down and/or handling animals that have died
