MEGT (Australia) Ltd are a not for profit organisation who make apprenticeships and traineeships happen. We employ almost 1000 apprentices and trainees across the country and are committed to helping create a skilled nation. MEGT (Australia) Ltd are currently recruiting 1st year Apprentices to join the large mining operations at Olympic Dam operated by BHP Billiton. Located 576 kilometres north of Adelaide, South Australia, Olympic Dam is Australia's largest underground mine, producing copper cathode, uranium oxide concentrate, gold and silver. This is an opportunity to work on large complex mining fixed and mobile plant machinery relevant to your trade. Gain experience working on fabrication projects within a workshop environment and become a competent and qualified welder, tested against a variety of national standards. You will also gain experience working with a variety of hydraulics and pneumatics systems. All apprentices will rotate through various on-site and off-site workshops, including local contractors, ensuring an opportunity to learn from highly skilled trades people that are passionate about their careers within this fast faced and exciting industry. As an apprentice with MEGT, you will demonstrate a genuine interest and drive, to complete the four-year Apprenticeship at a high standard. In return for your efforts, MEGT along with your host will provided professional development and guidance to successful gain the skills and qualification to enter the workforce as a tradesperson. Applicants will need to; Have completed a minimum of Year 11 and be proficient in Maths and English to pass a Mechanical Aptitude test. Preferably completed a Cert II pre-vocational course in their field, or demonstrate some exposure to their intended field of work. Be physically fit as you could be working in extreme temperatures and conditions Ability to work with hydraulic fluids, oils and grease. Be comfortable working underground, in confined spaces and working at heights Can live away from home for extended periods of time. Can pass a pre-employment medical and random fitness for work testing A Drivers Licence is preferred but not essential Should you be successful, you will initially work Monday to Friday 38 hours per week, and after 4 months your roster may transition to a 7/7 (7 Days on 7 Days off) 'Drive in Drive Out' Shift Roster Platform. Camp and Bus Transportation is available for non-local residents. Apprenticeship will commence February 4th, 2019.
