Corrections
People with a Correctional Services qualification may be responsible for the supervision and rehabilitation of prisoners in correctional centres.
They may be responsible for the following tasks:
- Observing the behaviour of prisoners and maintaining control, discipline and security within the correctional centre
- Noting behaviour of prisoners and advising whether they need special care, such as a visit to a psychiatrist, psychologist or social worker
- Patrolling assigned areas and reporting to supervisors.
- Organising clothing, reading material, toiletries and other materials given to prisoners
- Performing escort duties of prisoners in both the prison and other external agencies if needed.
- Preparing and filing reports.
- Providing leadership and acting as a role model to prisoners
- Helping offenders seek rehabilitation through basic counselling and supervision so that they may return to the community
