Job Role Example – Auto Mechanic
Duration of the apprenticeship is a nominal 4 year period.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop skills that will be taught according to the established training program.
The successful applicant will gain underpinning knowledge through their training, and will gradually gain experience that will lead to the development of Skills resulting in the competence and completion of their apprenticeship. This will vary according to each apprentice’s ability.
The skills that are gained over the nominal 4 years will mean the successful applicant will be capable of:
• Repair and replacement of cylinder head gasket is;
• Repair and replacement of timing belt and components;
• Clutch and transmission replacements;
• Check and repair of steering components;
• Check and repair of suspension components;
• Check and repair of drivetrains;
• Major vehicle service;
• Hydraulic brake system servicing, inspection and repairs;
• Electronic scanning of control systems;
• Diagnosis and repair of engine & body control system;
• Undertake the diagnostic and replacement of all bearing seals and gaskets throughout the vehicle;
• Repair and diagnostic of cooling system;
• Repair and diagnostic of fuels systems;
• Repair and diagnostic of exhaust system;
• Vehicle inspections including roadworthy and pre-sale inspection;
• Undertake repair and diagnostic of electrical circuitry;
• Undertake welding and fabrication;
You will be required to keep your toolbox and work area in a clean and organised tradesman like manner and develop a systemic approach to your work.
Training will be a mix of on the job training and study with a Registered Training Organisation. At the end of the apprenticeship, the applicant should gain a qualification and be considered a qualified automotive mechanical tradesman.
