In 2011, it was announced by the Australian Government that as a part of the Apprenticeships Reform Package, funding of approximately 80 million dollars would be made available to The Australian Apprenticeships Mentoring Program for use up until 2014-2015.

The Australian Apprenticeships Mentoring Program supports targeted mentoring projects that assist Australian Apprentices in successfully achieving qualifications through apprenticeships and traineeships. These projects may also provide information and support for employers and supervisors so that they are able to better support their apprentices or trainees. A focus of the program will be providing support in the first year of the apprenticeship, when there is the highest risk of cancellation.

What Can Mentoring Do For Me?

The aim of the Mentoring Program is to increase the retention rates of apprentices and trainees in order to improve completion rates. This will increase the supply of skilled workers in industries and trades where there is a significant shortage. By participating in a mentoring program, your chances of successfully completing an apprenticeship or traineeship increase. This means more job opportunities for the apprentice or trainee, and the addition of a skilled worker for the employer.
