A qualification in Underground Metalliferous Mining will provide the knowledge and skills needed to operate in underground mines and the use of specialised machinery needed to mine materials of a metallic nature.

Duties performed by an Underground Metalliferous Mining apprentice may include:

• Loading raw materials onto transport trucks and conveyor belts for transport above ground
• Assiting professionals with underground shot firing using explosives.
• Maintaining machinery and equipment used for the mining of underground raw metals
• Enforcing strict safety procedures and requirements
• Installing necessary secondary systems, such as air pumps, water pumops and dust extractors
