A qualification in Occupational Health and Safety provides the skills and knowledge needed to coordinate the safe practices and requirements of an organisation and to develop strategies to minimise risk.

Duties performed by an Occupational Health and Safety worker may include:

• Inspecting machinery and equipment and deciding whether they meet safety requirements
• Promoting Safe work procedures and regulations and instructing staff in the implementation of safety requirements
• Identifying possible risks or dangerous practices and creating procedures and guidelines to minimise the chances of an accident or unsafe behaviour
• Communicating with management and developing reports regarding safety in the workplace
