A qualification as a Marine Engine Driver provides the skills and knowledge needed to participate in duties performed on a commercial fishing vessel, in particular the maintenance and upkeep of the engine.

Duties performed by a Marine Engine Driver apprentice may include:

Performing maintenance on the engine and other systems directly related to the operation of a commercial vessel

Making repairs to machinery when faults are found and insuring the vessel is able to continue moving

Maintain logbooks detailing repairs and services taken on equipment

Participating in the day to day duties of the vessel
