The apprentice undertaking this role will acquire skills in repairing vehicle bodies, and manufacturing and modifying purpose-built bodies to fit other manufacturer’s chassis.

Vehicles may include buses, caravans, armoured vans, tray and van bodies, semi-trailers, refrigerated vans, horse floats, and fire and police vehicles.

Specifically, it will involve constructing framework sections made of various materials by working from engineering drawings, and shaping, welding and cutting.  It will also be necessary to fit axles, suspensions and brakes, install and repair wiring and lighting systems on trailers/caravans, and install hydraulic and pneumatic systems and vehicle component seals.
